Notes

Today was a lot of fun. My groin/solues was achy so I decided not to worry about the watch and just go out and run at a reasonable pace that didn't hurt, and for most of the race it wasn't even an issue. I just settled into 7:30s for the most part, although I walked all the steep downhills to keep from hurting myself again. I also stopped 3 or 4 times at port-o-potties to empty the bladder (there were enough that I didn't feel a need to water a lawn) and I slowed down to walk with a lot of folks that I came up to that were interesting, especially marathon maniacs. I walked almost a mile with Larry Macon (that guy is awesome.) During the 3rd relay leg, I was run sub-7s with a relay runner named Keith who was having a good time and just getting into running. At the end of the race, I caught up to my friend Randall who was having a rough time of it so I ran and walked him in to the finish line.

This was good for a personal worst time of 3:50:35, but I was having a lot more fun and felt a lot better after the race than I did after my previous personal worst. My combined time for the two races is 7:00:07.

And at the finish line, I saw Jake Holz who is absolutely brilliant. He was standing there in a bathrobe drinking a guinness. A BATHROBE! BRILLIANT!

(Oh, and thanks for the guinness! It turns out that a can of guinness is great post-race recovery fuel. Gonna have to remember *that* for next time too.)
