Notes

The Vermont City Marathon didn't quite go as planned, but well worth running. We had a 45 minute storm delay, and if you look at my splits you might think my slightly faster second half had remarkably even pacing...

You would be remarkably wrong!

Very slow first 5 miles, planned on slightly faster next 5 miles but got chatting and that lasted until the halfway point. Then picked up the pace and felt great through 19, going from 4 hour pace at the half and catching up to the 3:45 pace group.

Then the heat got to me and I started to fall apart, especially after the last turn at 21 or 22 onto the trail by Lake Champlain. I did pick up the pace for the last two miles at least.

I made a wrong turn getting back to the hotel and went over a mile out of my way and having to go up a really steep service road... But the front desk lady took pity on me and let me shower before checking out even though they wouldn't budge on checkout times.

All in all, the extra walking probably helped. After dropping Mitchell and Bart at the airport, I filled the tank with gas and drove the 5+ hours home nonstop without any trouble. Was actually easier than the drive to Vermont on Friday.

Fun fact: stopped to use the port-o-potty on the way out on the Beltline just like in 2006.
