Notes

Race report will be forthcoming, but I pulled a muscle on the steep downhills in the 10th mile and it didn't feel good so I backed off to a sub-3 pace instead of where I had been (which was to try to catch back up to and beat Paul Young). After a while, it was hurting on the flats, so I gave up altogether and backed off to a point that it wasn't painful, just annoying. After 6 miles at that pace or so, I decided in the last mile to pick it up to get a sub-3:10 and to see whether I'd be okay running again the next day. Ran 6:15-6:20 pace for the last mile or so and it didn't hurt anymore but wasn't happy, but felt as long as I didn't try to go too fast I'd be okay in my next race.

This course is pretty brutal - there are a lot of hills, which are fine, although I didn't care for the steep downhill portions at the north end of the lake. The wind was pretty fierce out there, though, and since I was hurting on the backstretch I couldn't take advantage of the tailwind. The camber of the road was really bad as well, and there was no way to run tangents if you didn't want to get hit by a car. Well organized and very pretty course, though.
