Notes

Pretty darn happy with this race but do believe I had more in my tank than what I left on the course. First half was glorious and fast. I did hit the bathroom at mile 8 and also took my first three Shot Bloks at that time. Took one cup of water at each water stop starting with mile 10 which was every 2 miles. Took 2 Shot Bloks at mile 13 to prep for the hills that we knew were coming at mile 16. Wind picked up then as well and the uphills were tough but the turnaround at mile 19 put the wind behind us. I picked up a second wind and took three more Shot Bloks. Pushed hard through mile 22 to pass two women and then took a Gu at mile 22. Getting to mile 24 was tough and I was playing around with my pace to see if I could relax a bit and then pick back up. Took second Gu at 24 and getting to mile 25 was tough and to mile 26 was the hardest but I kept pushing. Tried to sprint the last .2 but halfway felt like I was losing steam.

Original goal--finish under 4. Then I moved on to wanting to beat my Richmond time. Then realized I could try and get a BQ when I thought it was a 3:40 time but it was changed to 3:35. On the course I knew I couldn't do 3:35 but got my hopes up about a 3:40.

By MCM I should be able to hit 3:35.

Drove home and had a smoothie, plenty of water and really don't feel that tired or that sore. Think I finally got the right amount and timing of fuel figured out.
