Notes

Didn't have much expectation for this one - legs were still beat up from the long pace effort over the weekend and just feeling yuckie before this. Hung out at the WCRC tent for a bit chewing the fat. Got to connect with Laurie - was nice to see her. Then made my way to the starting line. Drove down here, so I decided to try and hit 1:10 (7:00 pace) with aspirations of getting just under that time....

Gun went off and I went with the flow - really trying to hold my target pace and not anything lower. Once again, I went out not feeling like myself - could not find my groove (breathing labored and just working way too hard to hold 7:00). What the hell, people passing me that should not - I should be better than this. Honestly, my effort the first half was so discouraging that I almost blew off the race and turned it into a training run....

Then mile 6 hit - my worst split, but once again, something kinda clicked. I focused on my breathing and my legs came around. Time to pay back all the runners that passed me the first three that shouldn't have!

The last four miles were absolutely incredible - where the hell was this energy earlier? Man, I was reeling in people left and right - felt like a dick, but it was really fun. Saw Pete Haslam at mile 8 - hammered down and passed him like he was walking. Hit the main street back to the finish and had a ton left. Crossed the finish line ready for more....

I have to figure out why I'm starting slow on all my runs - the only thing I can think of is that I took a GU at mile 5 - maybe I'm going into my big efforts depleted. All in all, I'm happy with this considering the week I had last week and how I responded, but this should have been better - the weather was perfect....

Saw you finish looked strong.

I would feel really good about this. Imagine racing feeling refreshed! You are in the middle of an intense training plan, not to mention you've been training for nearly a year without any extended breaks. Great job Fro.

Dude... awesome run... love the write up. Give me some of speed!

Nothing wrong with this... if you were rested shaving 30 sec off this would be very doable.
