Forums >Health and Nutrition>What's best to do or not do when you get injured?
You're supposed to drink it.
Sadly, that hasn't helped my knee.
And we run because we like itThrough the broad bright land
I am not a veteran, but here are my 2 cents from a couple of experience. When I think I need to take 2 days off due to an injury, I try to take 3 days off from running.

That's a very sensible approach, taking the extra day to be certain.
Do any of you have a "rule" or practice that focuses on what you do NOT do? For example, I never run hard two days in a row, or do two days in a row of quality work. I never overdo a recovery run the day after a LR. 3 miles is plenty for me. Those are two of my own rules, stuff I don't do. How about you? Spareribs
I don't eat ice cream the night before a long run. And especially not ice cream and whiskey.
I don't run the Lynnfield loop on weeknights. Those soccer mom's will fecking kill you.
I don't run West Street from January through March.
I don't run with runnershawn if it's s recovery day.
There are others but those are a few of mine.

I don't tug on Superman's cape
I don't spit in the wind
I don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger
And I don't mess around with Jim

I don't have any rules. That's part of my problem.
I abide by the old rule of "If it goes away as you run, keep running. If it gets worse as you run, stop."
In my injury history the way I treated the injury ran the gamut between this guy:
and this guy:
Some injuries you can keep going (perhaps including extra rest) and they'll heal, others you need all rest.
