Kariotahi Beach - my new favourite running route (Read 344 times)

Geoff Means

We moved to Waiuku 4 weeks ago and it has been fun finding new running routes. On Saturday I ventured a bit further into the country and passed a number of dairy farms. Aaaahhh the wonderful smell of cows and manure - it made me positively homesick for the small farm we left three years ago. Anyway, tonight I drove down to Kariotahi Beach for my second run down there. It's a beautiful, rugged West Coast Beach. It's now autumn so it won't be long before I'll be able to get down there for a run in a storm - I'll be in heaven. I took my camera along this time so here are a few shots of the beach: A view of the carpark and the road down to the beach Looking West into the setting sun. Australia is about 2000km away. Looking North along the Awhitu Peninsula. The Manukau Harbour is 25km up the beach. Looking South towards the mouth of the Waikato River ~10km away. This is the direction I ran tonight. If I ran twice as far I would have made it to the river!
