Sub-3:30 Marathon in 2012 Goal Thread (Read 4592 times)

Some have been to the mountaintop, some have only dreamed of it.  Some pretty much live there but embrace the struggle to remain.  It's time for folks to plan their 2012 assaults on the 3:30 "barrier".

We are here to support each other in this shared goal.  Welcome and please tell us a little about yourself.  I'm Clive -- injury took my 2011 racing away, so I'm going to seriously threaten 3:30 in 2012.  I'm just one of the many people who read and are inspired by those striving so publicly to achieve their goals.

The original idea for this thread can be found HERE.

        List the goals in 2012?

aha~  I have an additional marathon race in Dec. 4, 2011 in Shanghai, China,

        My goal is sub-3:30 ^@@^.

As for 2012, the goals will be made based on the performance on Dec. 4, this year.   Smile

I will be back.  see you then~~

I've entered the Edinburgh Marathon on the 27th of May, which is when I'll go for a good time. Hopefully I'll be in good shape by then. At the moment I have a bit of a problem with my foot (PF) which is recovering - but slowly. I can run... but only short easy runs at the moment or the foot becomes sore.

Put me in! I am racing one marathon at some point next year in an Ironman-distance race and am determined to run sub-3:30, preferably sub-3:20, on my way to a sub-10 hour race.

            PBs: 1 mile - 4:59 (2008) 5k - 17:34 (2011) 10k - 37:40 (2011 in Blenheim Half), 21k - 1:21:32 (2011 Blenheim) 42.2k - 2:59:24 (NYC 2011), Ironman - 10:28:43 (2010 Hawaii)

            2011 Goals: Olympic Tri - 2h05min (2h09min), 5k: 17:30 (17:34) 10k: 37:00 (did not attempt), 21km: 1:21:00 (1:21:32), 42.2: 2:59:59 (2:59:24)

Judges, I need a ruling: we have a sub-3 guy here, talking about shooting for sub-3:30 in the marathon he runs as the last leg of an ironman-distance triathlon.

Just kidding -- you're in!  Post or PM the race details when you have them.

Sweet. I live and train on that course - the Lehigh Parkway. Great running community!

I ran the marathon relay this past year and had a blast!

                  Prince of Fatness

I live and train on that course

Small world.  Me too.  I ran the marathon in 2009.  It's flat and fast.  There is a lot of dirt and cinder path on the course so be prepared for that.  My only gripe with the event is that it is too early in the season and it can be pretty warm.  It was mid 60's with high dew points at the start when I ran it.

                    Not at it at all.

Thanks for setting up the thread, CliveF!  I'm feeling a lot better about trying for sub-3:30 now.  I'm still a rookie (ran my first marathon a week ago), but taking off ten minutes seem possible.

This thread'll help keep me going for it!

"When a person trains once, nothing happens. When a person forces himself to do a thing a hundred or a thousand times, then he certainly has developed in more ways than physical. Is it raining? That doesn't matter. Am I tired? That doesn't matter, either. Then willpower will be no problem."

Back from my friend's wedding.  Ran half the time I was away.  The combination of all inclusive buffets, bars, and late-night discos were not conducive to early morning runs on a treadmill.  If a dance competition breaks out at Boston, though, I might get discovered.  Smile

So, I'm out of excuses now.  Time to just buckle down and start putting in the miles more consistently.

CliveF, thanks for maintaining the list!  Can you put me down for Marine Corps, too?  (October 28th).  It looks like it usually doesn't fill same day, so I should have time to register.

18MAR2012 - Shamrock.  3:30 is the goal.  This would be my first marathon.

You can add me to the list after you stop laughing.

I am in for 2012, hope to run a spring and a fall in case the spring one dioesn't pan out.  No definite race picked yet though so will have to edit later once I get my work schedule figured out but 3:29:59 or less is the goal.

                                 I have a 3:36 from Chicago 2008 a need to top.
