Olive oil, Vegetable oil, Butter, Margarine... (Read 178 times)

Which is the healthiest to use when cooking?

Olive oil by far. It is healthy monounsaturated fats. It actually helps to lower your cholesterol.

Butter would be second, but it is saturated fat, so is not as healthy as olive oil. It can increase your cholesterol.

Margarine should be avoided at all costs. It is made by hydrogenating vegetable oils. This forms the bad TRANS FATS. These are the worst for increasing risk of heart disease. Avoid anything that says "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated" oil.

    Oh, I should say Canola oil is also monunsaturated. Other vegetabale oils will have varying amounds of mono and polyunsaturated fats. These are ok and better than butter.
