Notes
HOT! 30 minutes before the race began the temperature was 80 degrees. During the race the temperature climbed into the upper 80's. I ran the first four miles according the my race plan - just under 6:30/mile, but at this point made the decision to slow the pace and survive the day. I ran the middle 25k quite relaxed without making much of an effort to push the pace and the final 8k a bit quicker.
At every water stop I drank some gatorade and water and dumped as many cups of water as I could grab on my head. This kept me from overheating before the next water station. I also grabbed water from spectators beginning at about 13 miles.
Overall I felt fairly good considering the conditions, the only problems were a bit of dizziness at about 15 miles (extra water consumption took care of that), a blister on my right foot from water logged shoes at about 18 miles, and a mild calf cramp starting at about 23 miles.
I feel like the weather prevented me from racing and I could have gone faster had I wanted, but decided against even trying to run low 3 hours for fearing of getting into trouble. Had the weather been good I feel like I could have run well under 3 hours.
