Boston Corporate Challenge. Huge race, 361 companies and 9,000 people. I didn't know what to expect from myself or from the other runners. I figured I would be near the top and so I decided I'd go out with the leaders. That lasted all of two minutes. I gradually fell back as we made our way down Commonwealth. Oh yeah, so the race is all the way out on Commonwealth, then all the way back. Blegh. So anyways, the front pack went out in sub-4:50 but I still ran a pretty respectable 5 flat first mile. I felt alright up to then but I was struggling a little bit. That got worse as the race went on.

The mile splits were not accurate at all and I didn't wear my watch so I'm not sure how much I slowed down, but the second mile was probably my slowest. 18:19 puts my average pace at 5:14 so I guess it can't be too bad - and doing the math puts my average for the last 2.5 at 5:20. So I'm guessing I slowed down to 5:20 or 5:25 pace through the 2nd mile, then was able to pick it back up through the 3rd mile and into the last half mile. Decently strong finish with a respectable time.

Not exactly what I wanted to run but I can't complain too much for my first time here. I wanted sub-18 at least but I think I wasn't ready for it and the course was also very mentally tough. The long neverending straight really sucks. Looking forward to this next year, it was pretty fun. I bumped into Pat Condon at the start of the race which was pretty damn cool. Also got to meet some cool people from the company and went out after the race. It was an off Friday week so didn't have to worry about getting home early for work the next day. There is supposed to be a corporate challenge race in Manchester in a couple months so I'll probably do that one too.
