Notes

Okay, so the way this Ultimate Runner Night works: it's 4 races with less than 10 minutes rest in between each. As the name suggests it's supposed to determine who the "ultimate" runner is - sort of a decathlon but only mid/long distance running events. It's put on by Gate City so there really isn't any competition, so it was basically me and Jake duking it out.

First race was the 400. Just pathetic. I have absolutely no speed right now. Thought I would be slow but 66? Jeez. Gotta work on that.

Second race was alright considering the 400 right before. A 2:22 800 isn't the best but I'll take it.

The mile turned out to be really good. I didn't want Jake to run away with the thing so I basically just went for it in the mile. Let Jake lead for the first two laps I think then passed and just tried to hold on. I was doing really well and had a strong last lap. Only problem was Jake somehow closed the gap in the last 100m after seeing the clock and we ended up finishing too close to call. 4:47 for that one.

Last was the 5k. Finally, something I'm good at :) It started on the track but quickly went into the trails where most of it took place. Jake took it out hard as he always does and I settled into following probably 50 meters behind. Slowly caught up through the first mile then passed him after that. I think he was basically done from all the other hard racing and didn't have much left. I kept up a good pace and fought through a cramp to finish with a 16:52. I think this goes to show more than anything that I can bust out a 16:50 whenever the hell I feel like it - seems to be the time I always run for a not-too-serious or out of shape 5k.

Still didn't go fast enough in the 5k to make up for Jake's 56 second 400, 2:12 800, and the same exact mile time. But I still broke the record for the best 5k during the event so there's that.

However once I finished when I tried running again I found I couldn't put any weight on my right leg when running - like a bad pain under my kneecap. I have a feeling it had to do with the super tight right-hand turns during the 5k. Thinking it is just muscular but will probably be taking some time off because of it.
