Notes
Boy, this race kicked my butt this morning. I was concerned during the warm-up with how humid it was (it rained all night). I still had a goal in mind of trying to run 6-minute pace, which I thought was doable after averaging around 6:10 for the UC Half Marathon 2 weekends ago. Went out the first mile with Jason, who was doing a progression workout as a last tune-up for his marathon race next weekend. He gradually pulled away by the start of the third mile, and I ran completely solo in second place the rest of the way. I pretty much kept it on pace the first 3 miles, but then the wheels came off big time. The humidity just felt like it was making me run in slow motion, and I was already noticing goose bumps on my arms by mile 4, which is a sure sign my body wasn't cooling itself properly. I stopped looking at my watch, because I knew my goal of 6 minute miles wasn't happening today. Tried to run as hard as I could the rest of the way to the finish without completely blowing up. I felt every little hill out there today - just wasn't my day!
I still got second place overall at Poca, which I'm pretty proud of! It seems like I finish second or third every time I run this race! Maybe one of these years I'll win the darn thing ;)
