Notes

Started in the last coral of wave 3! First three miles was very congested. I spent most of my time on the side of the road on dirt and the occasional yard. Things cleared a bit after the 5k. Felt amazing miles 3-10 so I went TOO FAST! Started to feel a bit tired so slowed down 11-13. Got a second wind after the halfway mark and started banging out 6:56s for several miles. Working a bit at that point but felt good. Working fairly hard on the Newton Hills at 18-19 but still felt ok. Had to really work to get up Heartbreak and then I was dead. 100% dead. The last six miles were the hardest of my life. Was over 7min pace for the rest of the race. Managed to sprint on Boylston but wanted to stop so badly during miles 24-26. Cobb yelling, "You are an animal Mahoney. You are friggin animal!" at mile 25 gave me the strength to finish and not walk. My right hamstring almost cramped around 19-20. My left hamstring almost cramped around 21-22. So afraid it was going to cramp and I was going to have to stop. I ran peg-legged for 100-200M each time to avoid the cramp. Top goal was to break 3 hours but I went out too fast! Second goal was to break 7 minute pace. Accomplished.

Amy and Judy: Gave me GU and gatorade at 10.5 in Natick.

Mom, Dad, Jon, Meghan at 17.5 just after the Newton Fire Station turn. Gave me Gatorade.

Steve Weitzler: Mile 12-13.

Jake Moorman, Rocky Hayden, Harry Kent and ? at 21-22.

Jenn Grandfield: 22-23 miles

Mrs. Feltault: 20

Jason Patch: 20

Cam Hebert: 16-17

Leslie Bedell: 20

I finished a little over an hour before the bombs went off. I ran on that side of Boylston at the finish. Got my bag and found Amy/Judy. Changed and got a cab to Gov't Center. Was on Rt 93 when my phone started going crazy starting with Julia. Felt like every person I know checked on me over the next few hours as I watched it all unfold on TV. Hard to be happy with everything that happened. 3 dead, tons of lost limbs, lots of people in critical condition. The pain I felt is nothing compared to what the victims are feeling right now.
