Decided to join Brent in the 2nd Rogue 30k Trail Series race out at Flat Creek Ranch. Same spot as that 50k I did years ago. Nice and cold and remained cold the entire morning. My trail legs were pretty immature and I have not been doing very many miles so I took it real easy the first lap. Actually ended up following a couple of guys who got lost - 4 of us all together. I think almost 1/2 mile added to the first loop. 2nd loop started to find my pace. 3rd loop I tried to push it, especially on the non-technical sections. Had the same guy following close behind me for most of the race. Legs started to get real tired towards the end and was having a hard time navigating the ups/downs and actually took a tumble in a creek crossing (could easily jump over it). banged up the knee and elbow but no huge damage.
Finished respectable - a few minutes behind Brent - 13th overall. The loop splits were definitely progressive:
9:09, 8:10, 7:49.
Just need to practice the technical stuff and keep working on strength training and I may get to be better at this sport. Sure do enjoy it.
