Notes
Not sure if I could pull out a PR since I took off the month of May for the right foot stress fracture and have been slowly adding miles since. The weather was a little warm for Napa, but very cool compared to Texas. The start was just down the road from the in-laws so it was an easy drop-off. The first mile had a hill but the rest of the course was flat or even seemed downhill - absolutely beautiful. Looking back at the graph it was an uphill finish. Not many spectators on the course though. Initial plan was to start at 7:30 pace and move down to 6:30 throughout the race. After the hilly first mile I just kept it relaxed and was clicking off 7:00 min miles pretty easily so I just went with it. I had a couple of anomalies here and there but overall kept a steady pace and ended up finishing just 4 secs shy of the PR back in December (Decker Challenge - much hillier). Feel like if I pushed it through those few "slow" miles, including the first, I could have broken 1:30. Took one caffeinated Gu at Mile 10, otherwise stopped a few times for Heed/water. Little muscle soreness the next day but nothing major.
Right foot had no problems so I think I'm fully recovered. Time to train for SA BQ attempt in November.
