Notes

I am afraid we got screwed on the Half as it appears we lost about .37 miles. Looking at the course map and my map from the GPS we left out a leg due to volunteers not directing any runners to the right course at mile 3. I was aiming for 7:20 pace, a PR for me, and when I saw it as 7:07 I was blown away. Watch didn't start right off so had to recalculate difference from mat vs my watch. The course had three 180 degree turns which does mess up Garmins, but I didn't think it could be accurate. C'est le vie. Still a PR for 12.76, and still the fastest old guy to complete the course.. guess I could say it was the 60 year old course record! Still beat the other old guys by several minutes... see below! Felt very relaxed throughout the race. I think this is key... don't stress, but enjoy it. Two major up hills at mile 3 and 5. Took two eGels at mile 5 and 10. Was sweating pretty heavy and these helped. Kept Rob in sight the whole race, but held to a planned pace of 7:25 or less for the first 10 miles and start racing the last 5K. Got right on Rob's heels at mile 12 and thought about passing him... probably should of at that point, he out kicked me in the final 100 yds. Nice job Rob! Nice to have won another Age Group and in essence PR's the pace for a half. If I extrapolate pace out to 13.1 this would have been about 1:35... which is 12 minutes faster than last year at this race and a PR of about 4 minutes!

That first hill is all of mile 3. Wow. Great work and way to get the hardware....or ummm , whatever the buoy AG prize is considered.

Rob_K

The real shame is the .4 that they cut out had a nice gentle down hill slope on Danforth. Looks like we had similar plans, mine was to run as close to 7:20 as possible upto 7:25 for the first 2/3rd and then make a decision from there if I could hold it or whatever. Great running.

Super job to both you and Rob. Yes, you would add about 2:22 based on a 7:20 mile. That's an enormous PR under less than optimal conditions.
