Notes

What a wonderful run! I ran with Joe Ely, long-time running buddy, fellow Marathon Maniac and Miata driver. When we signed up for this race last fall, the idea was we'd each run half of it. Then, tomorrow run a full marathon at the Icebreaker Indoor Marathon. Well, with me still on the mend from my hamstring injury, my participation in the full is out. And we decided to split the relay into smaller chunks based on my chiropractor's recommendation. We alternated running intervals of 5 laps and it was perfect. Five laps in this indoor track is a bit over a mile-and-a-half. So, the distance was in manageable chunks as eachrunnung interval was followed by about 15 minutes of recovery while Joe ran. I didn't start to really "feel it" until about Mile 11. Then, my lack of training of late starting catching up to me in a big way. I had been running a 3/1 split all day and now 3 minutes of running started to become difficult. Several times I cut the run portions short feeling just bushed. Noteworthy, again, my hamstring and legs weren't really the issue (a little bit of discomfort towards the end, but nothing I would call "pain"). Joe joined me for the final two laps do we could cross the finish together. A fitting end to a joint Miata Maniac team effort.
