Notes

Acton Fair 5K then I ran back to the Y after for a cool down. Nice cool morning and what looked to be a fast, flat course. I'm not in the greatest shape right now but who knows I may have a shot here with a smaller field. I position myself up front and take off. Rob jets right out at 5:45 pace for the first 1/4 mile and I assume realizes he is too out too fast. After that I take the lead. I'm now by myself folllowing the ambulance in front of me since I've never run this race. We did travel this course during a group run once so I was somewhat informed and thought we may have missed the left turn. I throw my hands up in hopes of getting the driver's attention but he doesn't respond. Then I think well maybe they changed the course since there were complaints that it has been short in past years. Then I see this steep hill he is taking us up and the watch is already nearly at the halfway point. Finally he starts to turn around, the guys behind me yell at me that this is the wrong way and I feel completely deflated and nearly come to a stop. The closest guy to me who was more than a pole's length behind me catches up to me and we are both pissed and I essentially cash it in because I'm thinking that those behind us who went into the cul de sac are way ahead now. Him and I stay together the rest of the way in until just before the 3 mile mark. We both go into an all out sprint. I can only hold it for about a tenth and he holds it the rest of the way. Come to find out we were stil first and second place-I couldn't believe it. This guy has won it the last 3 years straight. I believe I could have won this race had there been at least an arrow pointing us in the right direction. The RD offered our money back but we declined. I should be wearing some brand new NB shoes from Bergeron's right now but it wasn't meant to be. And the quest continues.
