Hit the first mile in 5:57, which felt pretty comfortable. I should have stayed at that pace for another mile before picking it up but I didn't. Instead I hit 5:48 for mile two and by 2.5 I was hurting pretty bad. I decided to stop at what I thought was 3, which I hit in 5:58. On the way back I checked the mile markers against my watch and found out the course was actually 3.05, a difference of about 80 meters. This made me feel better about the last mile, which I worked pretty hard on to end up with a 5:58. During the third mile I went through 2 tunnels, one of them fairly long. That's probably where the watch lost signal. If I add those 0.05 to the last mile split it comes out to 5:41 pace, which makes a bit more sense. I'm about 90% sure the course netted downhill. Overall ok workout, especially for so early in the morning, although next time I need to wait until after the second mile before deciding to pick it up. If I had hit 11:50 instead of 11:45, and then followed that with a 5:50 instead of a 5:45, I probably would have managed 4 miles rather than running out of steam after 3.
