About me:
I used to be a lot faster than I am now. I'm ok with that. I still enjoy running and feeling fit, but don't really love racing like I used to. PRs from my faster days (high school & college): 400m - 56 (HS) 800m - 2:01 (HS) 1,500m - 4:05 (Col) 1,600m - 4:32 (HS) 3,000m - 8:38 (Col) 3,200m - 9:26 (HS) 3mi (XC) - 14:52 (HS) 5,000m - 14:38 (Col) 8,000m (XC) - 24:59 (Col) 10,000m - 30:20 (Col) PRs since college (some decent, some horrible from lack of attempts at the distance): 1,600m - 5:04 3,200m - 10:20 5,000m - 16:16 3.5mi - 17:55 8,000m - 26:23 10,000m - 35:24 10mi - 56:38 13.1mi - 1:14:32 26.2mi - 2:50:09
Why do I run:
Until I graduated from college in 2003, I ran to be in the best shape I could be and to be a competitive racer. It was a lot of fun. Now, I still want to be competitive, but find it more challenging to put in the time and effort that it takes to be in that same kind of racing shape. I enjoy running, more so, just for the fact that I can go outside and do it.
Why I started running:
Way back in the day, I ran XC for a few weeks as a 7th grader, just to do something and be on a school team. I didn't care much for it and quit. The following fall, a friend of mine basically made me join the team again, so we could get in good shape for soccer. I ended up enjoying it a lot more and had a great first full season where I was fortunate enough to have broken the school's 2mi record and finished 17th in the jr high state meet. After deciding to run instead of play soccer in high school, the passion for running grew more because of some great coaching and being part of a very successful team that won 2 state titles while I was there along with a 3rd and 4th place finish as well. College was great too, running for North Central and being a part of 2 national championship teams (1999 XC & 2000 T&F) along with 3 other NCAA trophy finishes in XC.
