Notes

I felt really good overall. I was able to maintain my goal pace of 8:20-8:30/mile throughout the race and got in under 1:50:00, which was my goal. I was able to shave 5:00 off my previous half-marathon PR (Philly). I took water and gatorade at most of the water stations and took my gels at around miles 5 and 9. My piriformis started to hurt around mile 10 or 11, but this has been giving me trouble again for the past two weeks and was probably due to fatigue, and I was not able to properly warm up before the race due to the porta-potty lines being so long. I didn't do my glute activating warm ups that I usually do. When I finished, I had my typical "asthma attack" of whooping cough and I had a chest cramp on my upper right, near my sternum. That passed and I drank some more water and gatorade and ate a chocolate dipped chewy granola bar. My feet and butt hurt as I walked back to the car. By the time we got to Dunkin Donuts on East Ave, I was feeling nauseous and Sean got my coffee for me, no food yet. By the time I got back to the house, I was very nauseated and had to go to the bathroom. I'm not sure if the stomach cramps and diarrhea were something else completely, but I've never been that sick for that long after a long run. The other times I was sick were due to dehydration and not getting enough calories during long, hot, humid runs this summer. This may have been an actual virus, since both of my schools have had cases of stomach bugs going around. Once the stomach cramps eased about 6 hours later, I started to feel very achy and my throat was sore. I think I was getting sick before I ran and the stress of the running just brought on these illnesses ten fold. Monday after the race, I took off from work due to illness and my thighs were very, very sore. As in, I cannot walk down the stairs without looking like I have something wrong with me.
