Notes

My leg ached a lot yesterday, so I kept today short. 2 mile warm up. Didn't feel nearly as easy as I wanted it to, even though it was about 7:50 pace.

Race splits: 3:24, 3:27, 3:17. I got out fast but not crazy fast and was in front of everyone so I didn't have to deal with the silly people who sprint the first quarter mile. I slowed down a little to wait for Kristina to find her way out of the mess, and then got back on pace with her right on my shoulder. I felt great by this point. Our plan was to average 3:30 per kilometer, so the first split was a little fast. I knew that and thought about easing up a bit, but then the two guys who were with us came up on my shoulder. I kept the lead up the first hill towards Barclay, and noticed Kristina dropping off a bit. At that point I changed plans and decided I wanted to win. I wasn't sure at the time if I was speeding up, but it felt like I pulled away from everyone just a little bit after the hill. I had to deal with some traffic going down the sidewalk, but only had to stop once to get through. At 2K I was hurting just a little, but I knew I had plenty left. Or at least I would have when I was in shape. I considered the fact that this was only my ninth run this month, and decided not to take off too hard. I looked over my shoulder a lot and slowly increased my lead. By the last hill I had a very comfortable gap so I kicked it in without worrying about losing, and felt pretty good. 10:08 overall. Kristina did great, finishing in 10:36.
