Nature Trail

Notes

Easy warm up with Evan, and a few strides. The race started a few minutes late so I was worried about getting tight, but I felt fine.

At the start of the race, a bunch of guys sprinted the first minute or two ahead of Siqs. I wouldn't care too much except they were goofing off and getting in our way, which pissed me off. Siqs went with them and had a decent lead on me and Evan going into the nature trail. I slowly reeled him in, and was with him by the time we got to the frisbee field. We came through 1K in 3:00, if the course was marked right. I knew that was pretty fast, so I backed off a little. Siqs and Evan must have backed off too, since they didn't pass me. I felt decent going up the hill by the pond, but was definitely working hard. Siqs and I had to deal with running around the walkers on the second loop, which may have slowed us down a bit. Not too bad though, they just had no idea we were coming. When we got back to the frisbee field, I knew I had to gap Siqs or risk getting out kicked, so I pushed hard and could feel my legs getting heavy. I think that surge must be where I dropped him, since I didn't hear people cheering for him as I went by the duck pond. I had no kick going up the final hill; I just tried to hold on and not lose. The time was about 9:38, so a little slower than last year but not bad given the slightly modified course (which had a bit more elevation change) and the fast first 1K.

Easy 2 mile cool down with Evan after standing around and talking to people. The event was lots of fun, as always. It was great to see so many people out and having a good time.
