Notes
My Garmin 610 showed the course quite short (3.02), but OTOH the second mile split sure seemed long. I'll do some investigating of this on Connect later; Garmin 610 splits: 5:17, 5:42, 6:00, 0:05. I want to feel disappointed with the time and especially the apparent breakdown, but I did pass at least 3 guys in mile 2 who never took me back, my OA finishing place seemed pretty good (certainly top 10, I think, will check later). Did battle with one guy from about 1.5 miles to the finish, but he beat me up the big hill at the end. I think my lack of hill preparation for Boston hurt me today. I think there is a lot of good speed in me, but just not that strength I need. Deep inside I do also feel a little bit like I chickened out that last mile or so and didn't dig deep like I did in the caves in January. Gotta keep working to fix that running-like-a-pussy stuff in the last mile.
The course is slightly different from last year so they don't compare apples to apples. FIRST man over 40, period!
(Officially I was in the 45-49 because they group by birth year which moves me up a couple months prematurely in this case).
Overall, with no real intentional preparation for this race distance at all, I think I'll be thankful and take it.
