Notes

Back to Doyles for the Pub Series. Didn't know what plan to go with since Boston is next weekend but decided to just go with it and see what happened. After a good 2 mile warmup, the race ended up being delayed about 25 minutes which resulted in about 35 minute gap between warmup ending and the race starting.

I entered the Pub Series in 3rd or 4th in theory (depending on who actually does the full series). I was 3 back from TJ and 1 from Lee (2 from Joe Rivudo if he does the series).

The goal for today was to be around 5:15/5:16 per mile if I was feeling good. Gun went off and tucked behind the leaders and then eventually strung out with TJ a few runners ahead and then fell behind Lee and Joe Rivudo. Mile 1 came in at 5:18, which given the delayed start and some of the early rollers, was fine with me. Mile 2 had a bit of a headwind and lost much more time than I had expected. I kept pace with Lee and Joe and I guess I didn't realize we had slipped. In any case, I was sucking wind so it's not like I could have done much. Mile 3 got back closer to where I wanted but still a bit off pace. By now I was really working just to keep even this pace. Mile 4 still felt like a headwind at times and the rollers continued to sap away my pace. Mile 5 I had a slight burst trying to maintain my spot but not where I wanted to finish overall. I really would have liked to be 5-7 seconds faster me mile, which is a pretty good gap from where I ended up. I really struggle at this distance. To make matters worse, the Pub Series standings from race 1 were duplicated leaving me an additional point behind Lee, 2 more behind Joe Rivudo, and 3 more behind TJ. No ground gained, only lost.

I was hurting and I just kind of gave up by the 4 mile mark with just the goal of keeping my spot. I gave a half hearted push over the last 50 meters but that was more to keep the runners behind from picking me off. I don't think I would have been able to outkick Lee in any case today, but I feel guilty for at least not trying.

Bonus for Pick setting the 50+ record for the race and for Liz pushing both James/Benjamin again in the double stroller.
