Notes

Messy morning with freezing rain and running on a thin crusty layer of iced over snow. Although the conditions made for a forced slow pace, the real fun began when a power line decided to fall down as I was about to run under it. I thought I was cooked and tried to make a 180 over the icy intersection as I screamed in fear. The wire then glowed on the shoulder of the road for about 30 seconds before looking like a harmless stick against the snow. Nobody awakened to my shrieks of terror and it probably took about 1-2 minutes before any cars came down the street. Of course the first two ignored my waves and kept on going (good thing there wasn't a real emergency because people apparently ignore pedestrians flagging for help in the middle of the road early in the morning). Eventually a pickup with a work crew was nice enough to stop and let me use the phone while I directed cars around the wire on the side of the road (at least I had my yellow hi-vis jacket). Police took another 5 minutes to get there. I was actually probably lucky to have it come down in front of me as there is a good chance that I would not have even noticed the downed wire had it fallen 5 minutes earlier and it was just sitting there waiting for a victim. Finished my run and shoveled out the driveway.
