Didnt know what to expect coming into this race. First track workout since the marathons went horrible this past week. Came into this race in the lead of the Needham Grand Prix with a small 6-second lead. The gun went off and right away it was a pack of 3 going for the win. First mile was a quick 5 flat before making the turn onto Great Plain. I led through the bottom of the Greendale hill before Brian and Patrick pulled ahead. GP was a bit of a light headwind, which slowed me down. Making the turn onto Broadmeadow, Brian was creating a good gap on me but Patrick was falling off pace. I was able to reel Patrick in going up the hill on Broadmeadow and pull through the 2 mile mark in second. Unfortunately Brian was well ahead of the 6 second buffer and I would need a fast 3rd mile to have any chance. My body just didnt have the energy to respond and I stayed flat on pace and Brian continued growing the gap on me. Taking the turn back onto Broadmeadow, the wind was more intense and the hill knocked me back a bit, but I pushed through to keep Patrick at bay. I made one last effort entering the parking lot but Patrick was already finishing at that point.
Overall, I was fine with the time. It's tough coming back into fast races after the marathon for me and I had low expectations. Obviously getting the win or hanging onto the grand prix lead would have been nice, but it wasnt even close. I needed to stay within 6 seconds of Brian and he got me by 23. Not my fastest year of racing and Jog Your Memory was a struggle doing it the day after the half marathon, but still hoping to get some fast legs back. I miss getting times sub 16.
