Some ice at times but better than I expected. Goal was 12 miles with some MP miles. Plan was either 3-3, 3-2-1, 2-2-2, or some combination thereof. First stretch was going ok so decided to stick with the leadoff 3. Slowed a bit on some of the hills, need to get a little more mentally tough. Second segment cut short to use the bathroom so just a 1 mile interval, which unfortunately came in a bit slow despite some downhill. Third segment of 2 miles was 20-15 seconds off pace, which although had some hills and now some icy sections, just wasn't where I wanted it to be. Being this many weeks out, plenty of time to reel this in but need to get tougher on these paces. Perhaps what I need to do is rather than focus on MP miles on these tempo days, get in some sub MP miles too so that I get used to both some faster paces and MP paces whereby the MP paces feel a bit easier. Prob no track for me this winter so need to get in some limited speedwork somehow. Nothing like the track workouts planned, but perhaps a couple of faster miles here and there to get the turnover and feel in.
