Disaster. Pain in my right foot from the warmup was felt immediately in the first 400 meters of the race. My thought of it just being laces tied too tightly were apparently wrong.

Went out fast with a college runner a few yards ahead of me. Came through the first mile split in 5:10 in second place. Cardio-wise felt great, foot just hurt and only felt worse. Within the first mile my gait was altered and was clearly favoring my foot. Considered giving up about 1.5 miles in which was not far from the finish and before the course turned for an little out and back stretch. Sitting in second, decided to go for it. Big mistake.

During mile two a few peeks at my watch showed a drop in pace back to 5:25 and slower at times. Constant pain with each step in my right foot. Just past the two mile mark, started getting passed, with about 3 people passing me over the last mile. My body wanted to go and race to the finish, I felt strong but my foot was in considerable pain. I just couldn't push without really hurting.

Just before the three mile mark, the police car turned left and someone directed us to make a turn towards the finish. Came in to the line right around the 16:00 mark only to realize that the course was clearly short. Not having much luck with this. Top 5 all got sent the wrong way. There was a significant gap between 5 and 6, so the rest of the field was sent along the correct course (they let the results just stand).

Post-race, couldn't walk without a significant limp. Limped all day and into the next day before going to the doctor. Put into a walking boot, MRI taken, and stress fracture confirmed. I was feeling really strong too with my running, this sucks.
