Notes

Tonight was the first gear changer workout in awhile, perhaps last summer. We typically run cruise mile intervals at Threshold pace with 1 minute rest, and get in high volume. The gear changers are slightly different in that rather than the whole mile being at threshold, the first two laps begin at threshold, lap 3 is at repeat, then lap 4 we go back to threshold. Rest is two minutes rather than just the one. In theory we should have been hitting splits of 84, 84, 71, 84 or a total of 5:23.

Goal going into the workout was to run 5 of these. By the time I finished by warmup, I was already overheated. Figured 5 would be tough, but potentially do-able.

Smaller turnout at track tonight, so ran the workout with just Sean. Jake as usual was out ahead of us at a pace that probably didnt make sense for me or Sean to keep up with on a night like this (or most nights for that matter). First rep is usually tricky to hone in on the pace, especially after doing so many repeat/interval workouts the past few weeks. We were a little slow on the first one, but surprisingly felt the effects of the first rep.

The next 2 just got tougher and tougher. For number 4, Sean and I figured we would at least start it out and see what would happen to determine if we finish it rather than blow ourselves up. It was a tough one, but managed to keep it together and on pace to close it out. I was just exhausted by the finish. Was tempted with a 5th, but really had nothing in the tank and would have been doing it solo.

Blaming the exhaustion on the heat / humidity tonight.
