Temperatures were comfortable but footing was questionable throughout. Turned into a default easy day since I couldnt really push the pace too much. Certain parts were down to pavement. The stretch between Davis and Mass Ave was uneven packed snow followed by ice on the far side. Sidewalks on Mass Ave werent too btad. Some were thick (but not slippery) patches of ice, many spots were pavement, not too many slippery areas except for a couple of patches near Porter. Intersections were mainly a solid slush (opted for the waterproof bulky brick shoes). My biggest misstake was deciding to run down by the Charles. Lately my 8 mile loops have taken me out to Inman and then back to Harvard Sq. I was afraid the sidewalks would be questionable and historically the river path hasnt been too bad during the winter. Today, it was a disaster. Pretty much would have been better off wearing ice skates. Managed to stay vertical for the mile out and back, but at one point decided to just run on the snow covered grass.
It was good to just ignore the watch today and get out for a run. Ran about 6-7 minutes slower than I normally do for a Monday morning run, but couldnt do too much about that with the conditions. I'm guessing things will get better as the day goes on, just tough timing getting out for the run before things get cleared.
