Notes

This is a great example of how you need to actually train to run a marathon! Jerry Shaw and I ran the first 14 miles together - went through the half at 1:38:08 - which was only slightly faster than the pace I had intended to run for the whole thing. But then I cramped and had to start walking.

My first plan was to walk for long enough that my cramps completely went away - I tried this and walked for 1.5 miles or so before starting to run again. Unfortunately my plan backfired and the cramps only got worse because my legs thought something along the lines of "well I'm finished running so I'll just tighten up here"

So the rest of the marathon passed slowly in a haze of walk a half mile and then jog a quarter mile. I was only somewhat disappointed by the result as I had not expected to finish well. What got me the most was that I had to start walking at only 14 - that felt pretty bad.

Anyway, I finished and now it is on to better things!
