Chicagolands, fast heat. Pretty cold out today. Around 30 degrees and it was still a touch windy on the backstretch. Beaver, Andy, Jasper, and I were all in the same heat. The first two heats went out in 62, and 63... and our heat went out in 68 for the leaders but all 4 of us got terrible position and had bad part 1s and we were honestly closer to 70 for the first 400. It really even didn't pick up at 800 and we were 2:15. I made a half-assed move to towards the front to like maybe 5th in lane 2 but I didn't continue it or move in. It was a stupid mistake on my part as shortly after I got pushed all the way back by people going around me. With a lap to go I am pretty sure I was close to last with only Jasper behind me. It felt like we were sprinting but then I realized we should be. Got around quite a few people on the curve and the backstretch but everyone else was still too far ahead since they were up front when Beaver made his move. I don't think that Jasper and I closed that much slower than Beaver and Andy which was frustrating. I ended up 6th with Jasper 7th (closing in around 62-63 or so) and Andy and Beaver went 1-2. I know that Jasper and I could have been right up there with the two of them. Pretty frustrating knowing we made some stupid tactical errors but we had some good talks afterwards with the coaches and amongst ourselves knowing and learning what to do and how we need to actually apply it moving forwards.
