CCIW 800 final. Last Conference race in college, pretty crazy. Was pretty relaxed all day after being a nervous reck yesterday before prelims, but I was feeling good and confident for finals. I was talking with Jonah and Brendon about going out in around 55 or so, because we though Grant was going to be around 53-54 at the 400 and we'd be just off of him. It was pretty hot again, warmup was short and just focused on staying in some shade and putting ice on the back of my neck and on the inside of my wrist to stay cool. I think I did a really good job of that. Was in the outside alley with Chris so that was nice that I didn't have to fight anyone (no offense Chris - you had a great meet). Saw to my inside as Grant got out to the lead and was able to settle in right behind Suda again. We really slowed from 300-400 again like yesterday and that is when the Wheaton kid got in front of me. 57.9 through the 400 was just not fast enough. Down the backstretch Brendon blew by me, the Wheaton kid, and Suda with about 300 left and I followed suit about 250 to go. Got on Brendon's heels and we had a slight gap on the field. With 120m to go go I still felt really strong and thought I was about to get 2nd. Tried to get by him down the homestretch. I really thought we were clear of the field as I felt no one else coming, but Ethan yelled "2 METERS" and apparently that was Harvey coming back from the dead and he got us with 20-30m to go. Pretty fucking pissed to be honest, it sucks getting kicked down by an Augustana guy, let alone him. But, I know I can confidently say that I gave it my all and competed to the best of my ability for the team. Really just wish we went out in 55.x with Grant, I think it would have been better suited for us to score more points. The team got the title back though so that is what matters most, awesome to win on our home track as a senior after the last two years. It sucked so much watching last year not being able to compete. Now moving on to the last chance meets, I am going to give it my all to qualify, it may be a bit of a stretch, but I have nothing to lose and this weekend really helped set up for the 1500.
