Lynn Woods XC Trail Race
Great weather and legs felt really good after warm up. Junyong Pak arrived just before the gun went off and I figured he was the competition along with Chris Smith, although they're clearly in a different class from me. Maybe if I was feeling good and they were just happy with a tempo pace effort, I could give them a run for it. We took off from the gun and quickly the lead pack was Chris, myself, and this other guy. We left him after the first long hill. I tailed Chris for more than a mile and the rubber band slowly stretched on a downhill until I couldn't see him around curves. Then on a long uphill about a 1/4 mile from the turnaround, Junyong just floated by me with very little effort. Mile 2-3 was tough for me. I didn't have a target to catch as the two leaders slowly pulled away so that by mile 3, I was happy to just cruise. Picked it up for the last half mile and brought it in hard. I wasn't that close to the leaders, probably about a minute. I think the course was a little longer than 4. Good effort, but no fight at the end. Clearly in third... no one was close in front or behind me.
