Started really pouring just prior to the start, and start area was chaotic as usual. Finally got the traffic squared away and I lined up near the front. Started comfortably and ran abreast with two other guys, one who looked familiar and might be a BAA guy, and another slighter fellow built like Hermann. I began to get dropped at the first small hill, and then just tried to settle into a more manageable rhythm. They opened up a 50m gap at the 1st mile, and by the time we hit the steep section of Foster St., the gap had opened up to 100m. I tried to reel them in on the uphill, but felt pretty sapped when we hit Commonwealth Ave. After turning on Lake St., I tried to pick up the tempo and found that I couldn't go any faster. Both runners were out of sight when we hit Washington St. (saw Paul Morrison), and coasted from here to the finish. Wasn't able to handle the high pace... generally a disappointing race result, but not surprising considering my lack of speedwork this summer and fall.
