Notes

11 seconds short of my goal, but I'm proud of this race regardless. Decided not to care about pace, and just go by feel and try to race it. Went out with Streb and a few other guys, and Chad jumped in at mile 1. We had a decent pack for the first 6 miles. I let Streb get a little bit ahead of me around mile 5 because the pace felt just a bit too hot, then Chad told me that Streb was doing 5:50s and I needed to be with him. I put in a little surge, but the first hill was coming up, and I didn't want to expend too much energy, so I didn't maintain it. I felt like I handled the hills pretty well this year, but Streb handled them even better. Once we got into the cemetery, I started putting the hammer down and actually dropped Chad. I ended up catching the guy between me and Streb, but Streb just kept cranking away from me. I told myself that I was going to be close, and every second counted, and tried to keep pressing every step in the last 3 miles, but it was hard to push when I was all by myself. I could see Streb ahead of me, but he was far enough away that I didn't have contact and couldn't gauge my pace off of his. Still, I had a good last mile and closed well, but it just wasn't quite enough for a PR. Still happy with my ability to race well and push hard though, and glad to have a good result finally.
