Notes
Running of the Green. Had no idea what kind of shape I am in, so I decided to play it safe and get out around 6:00 pace, and keep it there until the turnaround. I was in a pack with some other guys who wanted to run around 30 minutes, including John Stephens, and there was a nasty headwind on the way out. So even though the pace in the first 2.5 miles felt pretty easy to me, I made myself stay in the pack to draft, and to prevent myself from going out too hard. Once we hit the turnaround, I immediately picked up the pace and started picking people off. Marcus was running well and was a ways ahead of me, but I slowly made my way up to him and passed him with about half a mile left.
I'm glad I was able to run smart and execute my race plan, but I do wonder if I could have broken 30 minutes if I went out a little quicker. In the end, it doesn't matter because I did what I wanted, and now I know I am somewhere in 30-minute shape. I need to do a lot of work to get back to sub-17 5K shape.
