Notes

Went up to Ventura the day before the race with Stacy. We stayed in the BW and it was great. Had Olive Garden for dinner and was in bed by 6:30 and asleep by 7:15. A good nights sleep helped a lot as I wasn't tired at all in the morning. Got up at 2:45, left the hotel at 3:30, got on the bus at 4:00. Sat on the ground our snuggies (thirft store find) for 1 1/2 hours. Weather was overcast and humid, not too cold. Started sweating within the first mile. Course was good, lots of downhill with only an long gradual uphill at mile 6. Could have used more water stations as I drank at each one and also carried my larger water belt but was out of fluid by mile 21. Started cramping at mile 17 or 18 but they would come and go. I kept praying they would stop. I took salt pills every 5 miles but started increasing in the later miles (may have to increase sooner and see if that helps) Interestingly I don't cramp like that in long runs so it may be that the faster pace of pounding may have something to do with it. I was getting really thirsty towards the last 5 miles and knew I needed to get more fluid in me so every aid station I would slow down and drink 2 full cups of water. The last mile I told myself just keep running even though every bit of me wanted to stop and walk. The last .20 I felt like I might not make it, that I might just collapse but I DIDN'T ;)

Overall I'm thrilled with the results!!!

Stacy didn't have the race she hoped for :( I felt really bad for her but it is only her 2nd race and I know she will kill it next time!!!
