warmed up by doing about 2 x 6 min easy on the course (break for the port-o-pots and get water. ( I've been incredibly thirsty in the dry air)

started out feeling really easy. i actually debated if i was going too easy, but decided to hold the easy pace would be smarter with hills coming up. Suddenly, about 1.5 mi in, my HR felt like it was racing and i couldn't breathe. I kept going up to the top of the hill I was on (the one that crests at balanced rock), and then walked the aid station just past 2 miles in on the way down. i grabbed a cup of water, but couldn't swallow and was weaving when i tried walking. I walked a few more steps and just forced myelf to run again and it seemed a little better. My HR still seemed to soar on some hills no matter how much i backed off, so i'd walk 15 seconds or so when that happened and get back at it.

nutrition, just had a honeymilk around 5:15 am (150 cal) and then a sip of gatorade at one of the later aid stations because my mouth was feeling so dry from this dry air.
