Nice surprise today. New road 5k PR.
Got stuck behind the first line of starters but that wasn't the worst part; the worst was the old men at the start trying to elbow their way to the front the first 200m. Anyway, things cleared up after that. Got in a good group for the first mile. John Leaf, Ben Merchant, and I, as well as a group of Gear West and RNF guys went the mile as the second chase group. Then things began to string out. Mile one at 4:54. Ben made a move to the next group up and I though I better get going too. The wind on the East side of Nakomis wasn't strong, but definitely noticeable from mile 1.5 to 2.5. Mile two at 4:55. Ben was still a good 3 seconds in front of me with Finch. Made a pick up mainly as an effort not to be solo against the wind. Hung out with Ben and Finch, and I guess Ben Kampf too, he was maybe a second or two ahead, up to just before the three mile. Third mile split at 4:56. My legs were feeling pretty darn good and I knew I had plenty of gas left to finish. I initially made my move with about a k to go, then another with about 300m left. I'm going with the time off my watch for now, we'll see what the official results are tonight. I think TCTC will take the circuit lead back from RNF this race.
