--- Third time running this and my slowest by four seconds. Holy shit I am fat.---

Woke up to the alarm a 5:45 a.m. and instantly wanted to turn it off and go back to sleep. But I knew Clara would be up in about 30 minutes anyway, so I’d only be getting 30 more minutes of sleep or so. I had a horrible night of sleep with bad dreams, a lot on my mind and dreading getting up for a run that was going to kick my ass. Maybe five hours tops (that’s what I wrote in my excel log).

I did my normal daily morning routine while the heat was coming on inside, which means it must have dipped below 62 degrees. Was scared to check to see how cold it was outside. Watched a rather poorly done Flotrack WOW from November 2014, logged my vitals, saw that it was 46 degrees out and trotted out the door around 6:27 a.m. or so. Of course it took forever (guessing close to eight minutes) for the Garmin satellites to wake up. That was some chilly waiting around time.

Started the run and started breathing relatively hard by 35 seconds and was already in hippo breathing mode by 0.15 miles. Could not wait to get up that first hill and take the sharp turn left for the long downhill (almost 0.70 miles). Was just trying not to dry-heave on that downhill and came across the mile in 9:02.50. I knew then that I would not break 9-minute pace for the run as the uphill at the end was going to kill me. I had run it twice before and knew that I broke 9-minute pace once, but those were also the first two times I had run in a very long time. I turned the corner and was doing OK for a moment, then started to get that wet spit feeling and dry-heaved at 1.29 miles. Slowly made it up to the top and took the left for the home straightaway on Arnold Way. Finally stopped the clock at what had to be a late 1.42 miles (close to 1.43). Did my normal walk to the bus stop and back and dry-heaved in the apartment driveway for good measure.

Happy to get up and run after not running for a week (also almost eight months before that run last Tuesday). I need to get through these first few weeks and things will get easier. These runs are what makes me not want to run. Just being so fat, out of shape and no concept of running form or pace. My legs hurt once again right when it finished, specifically the hip flexors. I could also feel that bad feeling in the lungs as well.

Hopefully I’ll get out there and run a flat loop tomorrow without dry-heaving. No stops today or last Tuesday. It’s the little things.
