--- Was rolling so good late I missed a turn and didn't realize it until the next street. Then started again only to forget to start my watch. Walked back and started again. So an extra 0.22 added on to Around the Neighborhood. Probably shorting myself, but we'll call it a 19-second PR over the normal 3.17-mile loop. ---

Mile splits: 8:45, 8:38 (17:23), 8:21 (25:44) and 3:17 (29:01) last 0.40 miles (8:13 pace)

Adjusted mile splits: 8:26, 8:28, 8:18 and 8:11 pace last 0.40 miles

Making this quick because it’s late after another long day of work. Got up later than usual today to try and get some extra rest, so I didn’t start my normal routine until after Rachel took Clara to school around 7:40 a.m. Did a decent stretch for me and was off after walking across University to the start.

Felt great right from the beginning and was moving pretty good up the hill part on Stanford and then the second hilly part on Stanford. I missed the 0.25-mile split, but was at 4:20 at 0.50 miles and I knew this would be quick. Still felt good on 70th where I sometimes start to feel it on this loop. Hit the first mile in 8:45 (8:26 adjusted).

Still felt good on 71st, which is usually a slog for me. I was splitting pretty quick at 1.50 miles, but I don’t remember the time. I hit the hill on Normandie and it wasn’t as bad as usual. I started to feel it a little bit, but saw a runner wearing a sweatshirt ahead of me, who was just walking, then started running again. I blew by him just as he started walking again, hopefully killing his dreams of ever getting in shape. Was pretty quick still for the second mile (8:38; 17:23 split). I kind of wanted to be around that beforehand so I was happy with that.

I really started feeling good down the hill on Colony and then especially on Harbinson. Got into such a good rhythm that I missed the turn on Stanford and went all the way to the next street (Berkeley). I stopped somewhere in the middle of the street and tried to figure out what to do. I decided to start again and just go back to Stanford, logging the extra time in the loop and base it off pace. However, once I got to Stanford and began turning on the hill, I realized that I never started my watch. So I walked back to where I thought I was at Berkeley and made a note of the distance (2.86) and the time (I forgot it). I started running again with my clock started, running all the way to the other side of Stanford and then running up the hill from there. I later deemed it to be an extra 0.22 miles altogether (0.07 out to Berkeley, 0.07 back, and 0.07 out to Berkeley again after walking back). Anyway, I hit the third mile, which was much easier than normal because it was only part of the Stanford hill, in 8:21 (25:44).

Finished strong up the hill (running a PR on it according to Strava) and finished strong. It sucks because I know I would have PR’d on it by a lot. Never mind the upper part of this part where I said 19-second PR, because I went with 3.18 miles at 8:33 pace (it was probably faster than that).

Either way, I felt great the whole run and this was very encouraging. Have a long weekend of work ahead of me, so going to try and do what I can tomorrow and hopefully early Friday morning.
