This was fun, and turned out much better than I anticipated! My running and breathing have been way off lately. My leg is still a concern, so with all that, I planned on using this as a fun run, and just hoped for the best. As it turned out the splits were all sub 9 even with rolling hills and a head wind coming back. It was not the best finish time I've had, but I feel a lot of success because it was the first run I've had in ages that I felt like I could breathe again. Maybe it's Anne's energy thing -- I don't know, but it was nice to run and not feel like a fish gasping out of water after the first 20 steps. Leslie and I ran about 11.5 together and that was awesome. At the 11.5 with more hills, a headwind, and my effort so far, I began to tire. Leslie zoomed on ahead for a PR, and I finished with a decent effort. This was a fun course. At first glance it might not have looked like it would be that great. The temps were good, but it was completely cloudy and a little dreary looking. We started at a school (nice because of indoor bathrooms), then headed through some neighborhoods before taking most of the out and back course through rural farm areas. Most of our crowd support was dogs, cows, (one that looked a little threatening) and even a llama! Almost the whole race was just steady, comfortable, and pleasant. There was decent effort, and I was tired and ready to quit at the end, but it was okay. We had done a warm up mile b/4 the race. With that, and after the first mile or so my leg soreness almost disappeared. It wasn't an issue at any rate. I hope so very much that this could be the beginning of starting to feel better while on a run again -- and with life in general.
