Notes

Well that went pretty well. Race start was a bit weird they got people to the line and then without warning shot the gun so people were confused. Started in the 3rd row of people. Garrett went out harder than brian and I and was frantically trying to get us to catch up to him 30 seconds into the race which gave us a good laugh Eventually caught up and say lynchj6@rpi.edu on the left so I started sprinting and ran by him doing https://www.google.com/search?q=fingers+in+front+of+face+pose&rlz=1C1KMZB_enUS557US557&espv=2&biw=1600&bih=775&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=DxmYVf3rD8y3-QGnhIHADQ&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ#tbm=isch&q=tongue+between+two+fingers+meaning&imgrc=jNPGXXjxBAU3eM%3A. Packed up with Garrett and Brian for most of it. We worked together slowly catching people who went out way too hard. We were told by Travis Briggs of Geneseo that the race goes out very fast, so we were conservative and apparently our first 400 was pretty slow. Regardless we bounced back. First mile was 5:14ish for 1 mile, 10:28ish for 2 miles, and 16:12ish at 5k (6k was about 19:22 which is much faster than my PR of 20:08). Luckily we caught the number one girl at about 2.5 miles in. When we passed her she held on which made Brain nervous. So we chilled until we hit the last hill and I picked it up a bit and Brian came with me. We both felt good at that point so we kept rolling and passed two more people in the final stretch, finishing side by side. Pretty happy we didn't have a kick battle otherwise I'm pretty sure I would have ripped a hole in my foot which had some serious hot spots from the flats. Thought Brian was ahead of me by like .01-.1 seconds but apparently I beat Brian and ended up getting 3rd in the 20-24 age group. All in all very good race. Felt more like a tempo effort than a race effort, so I have no doubt that I could have held that pace or even a faster pace for another mile (25:49 for 8k if we held the pace). The fact that it's early July is pretty cool so I'm going to continue to try to do the little things. Can't wait for November! Official time and field placement data to be posted once the results are.
