5 seconds slower than last year. Made the mistake of wearing the new balance 5000 spineless flats. I think they're a little big so I always end up getting horrible blisters. Last year it happened in the last mile (it was a bit cooler last year) but this year it happened coming through the 1st. If I were to sum up the race of say I raced the first two miles and tempod the last two. I went 4:59,5:11,5:23,5:20. My goal was to try and beat Travis like last year. Figured he was probably in good shape having run fast last XC season so I thought it was a good goal. me and him were talking a bit during the race and decided to work together. This resulted in us settling a ton and slowing way down. The pace was fine so I just kept with it and finished. Wish I didnt get hotspots today, would have been nice to see the type of shape I'm in.

The first two miles were still a pretty good fitness check. And if you can do 5:14 average pretty comfortably as far as breathing goes (conversational ish) then that's a really good sign
