Notes

so this was supposed to be a ten kilometer race. Mother nature had other plans. After 11 laps they called the race because of lightening. i decided "hey maybe if i just keep running they will change their minds." that didn't pan out so i was stopped a little short of 12 laps. I was at 16:01 when i was stopped and my best guess had me at most 5 seconds from the finish line of the 12th lap so i am just going to round it.

This was extremely disappointing. I had a pretty good race going when we were called off. After we stopped it took me about 50 meters of walking to catch my breath so i know i wasn't overly extended early and i think i may have been able to close faster than i went out in. Either way there is NO way anyone behind me had a prayer of beating me so i had a t-shirt and 5th place on lockdown. I kind of feel like i was robbed of that. If we would have re-run the 10k i would have done the exact same strategy too. Try to hold 80seconds a lap and all those people that were somewhat near me at the beginning would have been destroyed the second time around. I know none of them have the fitness i have. It is one thing to bullshit your way through 11 or 12 laps and then die but quite another to run 12 and then run 25 later.

The Manchester kid who thought he has going to take me on in the first 4k or whatever was totally screwed. Even from lap 4 i could tell he was WAY too tired to be running with me. I would throw in a small surge now and then and at about the 3rd time i upped the pace of one of my 200s by maybe 1.5 or 2 seconds and he was done. I was fully prepared to run 13 laps by myself trying to click off 80s or faster if i could, but unfortunately that didn't happen. I also would have been interested to see how things shook out up front too. I think the Kenny-Burris race would have been good and my money would have definitely been on Ponton catching the Earlham kid and putting the hurt on him with about 4 or 5 laps to go.

Hopefully i get a chance to run the 10k again at Purdue. Even if the race isn't exactly a very big or competitive field i think i can challenge myself to run those 80s
