Notes

I’ve always enjoyed racing in Boonville, population 1,035, an eclectic small town in the beautiful Anderson Valley. Today was no exception, especially after mingling with friends, locals, and the Fog Dodgers from Fort Bragg.

This out-and-back course is not PR worthy because the return trip demands slogging back up most of the hills. I raced thirty second slower than last year, not a terrible regression considering my current condition. I am most encouraged that my right hamstring gave no hint of cramping during the running, and legs are feeling okay walking this afternoon.

I had a late draw in the free raffle (where everyone is a winner), and still managed to score a bottle of 2013 Philo Ridge Pinot Noir. This small family winery claims to be vegan, 100% wind and solar powered, also adheres to sustainable farming practices. Good friends Tom and Nancy each drew a bottle of the consistent Hanley Pinot. I’d say this was a mighty fine deal for a $20 entry fee, which also included a distinctive race shirt.

Following the awards ceremony, I was ready for some comfort food and a celebratory beer with Tom and Nancy. We settled on the relaxing Buckhorn Bar & Grill in “downtown”. I liked the spicy homemade vegan black bean burger with crinkly sweet potato fries washed down with a glass of Anderson Valley Brewing's finest IPA.
