FAST course! entirely hardpacked dirt with a lil bit of gravel. In the woods in Matthews, NC for NIRCA nationals. 512 kids at the start. No wind. Flat with one hill (that we ran twice).

I opened the first mile real easy. Just kinda chilling behind people, not wanting to go out too fast. If an opening presented itself, I took it. The first mile marker was misplaced and I clocked in at a 5:09. Turns out that WASN'T the first mile marker, so I could've/should've/would've gone a lil harder after that first mile had I known. I clocked in a mile 2 at 11:55 and was VERY pleased. Eventually, Austin came by me at around 3.5 miles in and tried to get me to go faster with him, and at first I was all "YEAHH!" but then I tried to pick it up but i just couldn't. I felt like the Americans at the end of marathons: no kick because of a poor aerobic base.

Quality race. Very happy with it. Looking forward to a 5k next weekend.

This race showed that, since I beat Andrew Stella, I didn't lose any fitness over the two week period where I died. Now I just need to recover (my calves are KILLING me, probably from the dancing that night and the 11 hour car ride) and then bring the miles.

**EDIT** excluding from my PR because this course was about 200m short (found out 9/28/13)
